AI for Retail Store Sales: What It Can Do for a Shop or Showroom Today

AI for retail store sales, today, does five useful things for a shop or showroom: it listens to sales conversations that are recorded with the customer's consent and turns them into text, it scores each conversation against your sales steps, it tells each salesperson the one thing to do better and plays them a good example, it drafts the follow-up message for the customer who left so a person can send it, and it checks a photo of the display against the standard. It does not yet watch the camera and the conversation together (that is on the Borentis roadmap), it does not sell for your staff, and it does not fix a wrong scheme sheet. This page is the plain version: what is real, what is not, what it costs in shape, and how to try it in one store.

AI that listens to customer conversations: how it actually works

The customer sees a notice and hears a line. The salesperson taps once. The phone records locally and uploads when there is signal, so a basement showroom at 7 pm on Saturday is not lost. The model turns speech into text, keeping the salesperson and the customer apart even when they switch between Hindi and English in one sentence. Then a second model reads the transcript with one question per sales step: did this happen, and where. The answer is a score with the line that earned it. Nobody listens live. The audio is deleted once the transcript exists. The stage-by-stage version is at /learn/how-ai-can-analyze-in-store-sales-conversations/.

AI sales coach for showroom staff: what the coaching looks like

  • One step per person per week. Not a report card; one thing.
  • The best example comes from your own floor, not a training video: the colleague who handled the same objection well on Tuesday.
  • The salesperson sees it first. The manager sees it in the weekly fifteen minutes, with the transcript open.
  • The step moves in three to six weeks; the sales follow. Discovery questions and asking for the sale move fastest.
  • Recognition is part of it: the person best at a step, named in the huddle, chosen by the conversation and not by who sold most.

What is on the roadmap, and what to ignore

On the roadmap: the camera joined to the conversation, so the system knows the customer waited four minutes before the greeting and left two minutes after the price. Borentis calls this ShopperDNA and it is not shipped; anyone selling it today as a finished product should be asked for a live demonstration in your store. Also not yet: real-time whispering in the salesperson's ear during the conversation, which exists in contact centres and is a different and harder thing on a noisy floor; the trade-offs are at /learn/real-time-coaching-vs-after-the-fact-scoring/. To ignore: anything that promises to sell for your staff, anything that claims every language on earth, and any score that cannot show the sentence behind it.

What it costs, in shape

SoftwareA licence per salesperson or per store, monthlyNo hardware to buy; the salesperson's phone is the device
SetupWriting your sales steps and the consent notice; a half-dayThe steps are yours; the vendor should not write them for you
Staff timeOne tap per conversation; fifteen minutes per salesperson per week for coachingThe coaching time is the cost that pays back
Your timeA one-screen summary per store at closing timeTwo calls a day, not ten

How to try it in one store

  1. Choose the store whose manager wants it. Write your six sales steps on one page. Put up the consent notice.
  2. Record for two weeks. Publish nothing. Check that the busiest hours are in the sample.
  3. Read the baseline: interaction rate by hour, step scores per salesperson, top objections in the customer's words.
  4. Start the follow-up queue in week three and the weekly coaching in week four.
  5. Compare the step scores in week six, then the bookings. Add the second store only then. The baseline calculator at /tools/pilot-baseline-calculator/ puts your own walk-in and conversion numbers against the pilot.

Frequently asked questions

What can AI do for a retail store's sales today?

Five things: listen to consented sales conversations and transcribe them, score each conversation against your sales steps, coach each salesperson on one step with an example from your own floor, draft the follow-up for the customer who left, and check a display photo against the standard. It does not sell for your staff and does not yet join the camera to the conversation.

Is there an AI that listens to customer conversations in a shop?

Yes: conversation intelligence for the shop floor records on the salesperson's phone with the customer's consent, transcribes in Hindi, English and Hinglish, scores the conversation and deletes the audio. Nobody listens live.

What is an AI sales coach for showroom staff?

Software that finds each salesperson's weakest sales step from their own recorded conversations, pairs it with the best example from a colleague, and gives the manager a fifteen-minute weekly coaching conversation to have. The step typically moves in three to six weeks.

Can AI watch my CCTV and tell me why customers left?

Not yet as a finished product. Camera analytics count and track; joining the camera's view to the conversation is on the Borentis roadmap. Today the conversation is the source that says why.

What does AI for store sales cost?

A monthly licence per salesperson or per store, no hardware, a half-day to write your sales steps and the consent notice, one tap per conversation from the staff, and fifteen minutes per salesperson per week for coaching.

Is AI for retail sales legal in India?

Recording customers is lawful under the DPDP Act with notice and consent, recording limited to the sales floor, a stated retention period and deletion of audio after transcription. The scoring and coaching are internal to the retailer.
