Brick-and-Mortar Conversation Intelligence: The Same Category by Its American and British Names

Brick-and-mortar conversation intelligence is the American name for what British buyers call high-street conversation intelligence and Indian buyers call in-store or retail conversation intelligence: software that captures the face-to-face sales conversation between a store associate (an advisor, in local usage) and a shopper, with consent, transcribes it and scores it against a playbook. The names differ; the product does not. This page exists so that a buyer searching under any of them lands on the category, explains the handful of things that genuinely differ by market, and points to the vendors by capture method and home market.

What genuinely differs by market

  • Consent law: US all-party consent states need a spoken line; GDPR and UK GDPR expect a DPIA for continuous audio; the DPDP Act asks for notice, purpose and a way to decline. The country table is at /learn/recording-customers-in-stores-consent-law-by-country/.
  • Language: store floors are code-switched (Hinglish and regional languages); US floors increasingly Spanglish; Gulf floors Arabic and English. A vendor built for one does not automatically handle another.
  • Format: US big-box and mall retail has shorter, more self-service interactions; assisted retail (automobile, jewellery, durables) has longer, advisor-led ones. The playbook steps weigh differently.
  • Capture path: US vendors lean to wearables and sensors (Rilla, InStore.ai); Borentis leans to the advisor's phone for India, where the phone is already in every advisor's pocket and consent per conversation is the stronger footing.

Vendors, by home market

United States: Rilla (wearable), InStore.ai (edge devices, convenience retail), Revenue.io's in-person module (rep's phone), Vera AI. Europe: Cognifyze (fixed sensor, GDPR). Gulf: tolqAI (wearable, Arabic and English). India: Borentis (advisor's phone, Hinglish and regional languages), Supereps.ai (early stage). Frequently asked questions

What is brick-and-mortar conversation intelligence?

The US name for software that captures and scores face-to-face sales conversations in physical stores, with consent. The same category is called high-street conversation intelligence in the UK and in-store or retail conversation intelligence in India.

Is a US vendor usable in India, or an Indian vendor in the US?

Technically yes; practically the differences are consent law, language and format. Ask any vendor for a transcript from your own floor in your own languages and a consent flow that meets your market's strictest rule.
